Sweat gland blockage treatment

Causes and effects of sweating

Unfortunately, sweating is not always triggered by physical exertion or high ambient temperature. In many people, an overactive sweat glands causes excessive sweating on the hands, feet and armpits and usually means a considerable burden for those affected with a restriction of the quality of life. The flow of sweat under the arms often leads to a decrease in social contacts, but people who have to give a lecture can also be severely impaired by sweating and want a solution.

Types of treatment

Hyperfunction of the sweat glands can be treated in two ways:

Temporary solution – sweat gland blockage

Injecting botulinum toxin into the corresponding region reduces your sweat production for up to 6 months by blocking the sweat glands. The treatment can be carried out without preparation and repeated at any time.

Permanent solution – sweat gland removal

To permanently solve the problem, the annoying sweat glands, which are located directly under the skin, are surgically removed via incisions a few millimeters long. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. In any case, a so-called minor test (syn.: iodine or iodine strength test) should be carried out before treatment in order to optimally narrow down the areas to be treated.
